BROOKLYN - Some Brooklyn students are wrapping up their time at the "Science of Smart Cities Program" at the NYU School of Engineering.

The program introduced students to the sciences that are likely to shape the cities of the future like energy, transportation, wireless communication and urban infrastructure.

Instead of learning through textbooks, students learned in a more hands-on way by creating models of innovative technologies that reflect real world situations.

Examples included controlling miniature cars through a keyboard and programming sensors at a train crossing.

Participants of the program got to present their work for other students, their parents and their teachers.
