BROOKLYN

The borough's cultural district in Downtown Brooklyn could soon be getting a facelift.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced plans to revitalize the area by developing city-owned property for public use. The proposal includes affordable housing, an outdoor plaza and a 50,000-square foot cultural institution.

Officials say the plans are in the infant stages, but once developed, will change the landscape of the neighborhood substantially.
