DOE staff members, parents protest ‘unsafe and inequitable’ reopening of NYC schools

Department of Education staff members, parents and activists came together at Washington Square Park Friday to protest what they are calling the “unsafe and inequitable” reopening of New York City public schools.
Teachers tell News 12 that the conditions they witnessed when they came back inside classrooms were unacceptable.
They say they don’t know what to tell parents about what to expect because they say they are confused themselves.
They tell News 12 that they think students returning for in-person learning Monday will do more harm than good.
At the protest, they handed out hand sanitizer, masks and other cleaning supplies to parents and also hoped for donations to bring inside classrooms because they feel there is a shortage of supplies.
