John Dias joined News 12 as a General Assignment Reporter in October of 2013. Prior to News 12, he spent the last two years reporting as a one-man-band in Grand Junction, CO for the CBS and Fox affiliate.
There, he chased after wildfires and covered stories that made national headlines, like the Aurora Theatre Shooting. He also reported on the arrival of Air Force One during President Barack Obama’s visit to Grand Junction, and trips from both Mitt Romney and Ron Paul.
Born and raised on Long Island, John is thrilled to be back in New York. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University at Albany, State University of New York, with a double major in Journalism and Communication & Rhetoric, and a minor in Political Science. While in college, John interned for the New York State Assembly and was heavily involved in Albany Student Television. He also served as the Director of Communications for the State University of New York Student Assembly.
After completing a successful internship at WTEN, the ABC affiliate in Albany, NY, John was hired as a full-time Web Producer. Though that was his first job in the industry, he says his love for broadcast journalism stems back as far as high school, during his stint as a DJ for WSHR, Sachem Radio.
In his spare time, John enjoys running in the beautiful New York City parks and playing with his golden retriever, Baxter.
