1 BK swimmer dies, other is missing

NEW YORK - Police say a New York City man has apparentlydrowned and his swimming companion is missing.

Suffolk County police say the two men entered the water in anunsupervised area of Cupsogue Beach in East Moriches on Sunday.

The National Weather Service had warned of "life-threatening"rip current and advised swimmers to stay away from unsupervisedbeaches.

Police say two other companions stayed close to the beach whilethe other two men swam about 50 yards out.

Two Suffolk County Park lifeguards on a daily workout run pulledone of the swimmers out of the water and administered CPR. Theswimmer, a Brooklyn resident, later died at a hospital.

The other swimmer was not found.
