BROOKLYN - A fire that broke out early Saturday morning in Brighton Beach has left one woman dead and a second person injured, officials say.

The flames broke out at a multi-family apartment building at 3111 Seventh St. Fire officials say calls began to come in at 2:40 a.m. about the fire.

Authorities say after they extinguished the fire, they discovered 82-year-old Feyga Geyman with burn trauma. EMS officials pronounced her dead on arrival.

One resident says Geyman's 85-year-old husband was taken to Staten Island University North Hospital for burn trauma to his hands.

Investigators say the blaze began on the second floor of the building, but they haven't yet determined the cause.

Neighbors tell News 12 that they could smell smoke throughout the building last night and believe the fire sparked due to electrical issues in the building.
