1 dead, 4 wounded in beauty shop attack

FORT GREENE - A beauty salon in Fort Greene was the site of a coordinated attack Monday afternoon that left one man dead and four with gunshot wounds.

Investigators say the incident started as a drive-by shooting then escalated into wild gunfire inside the De Lux Gallery Inc. salon. Police say a man was eating cake outside a local bakery when shots were fired from a black SUV. The man ran into the salon in an effort to escape, but was followed by the gunmen. According to police, the man was shot dead, while four others, including an off-duty police officer, were wounded in the attack.

Councilwoman Letitia James says it?s unusual for something like this to happen in the community in broad daylight.

Three of the wounded are being treated at King?s County Hospital, while the off-duty officer is recovering at Bellevue Hospital. The gunmen are still at large.
