EAST FLATBUSH - A teenager is dead and another is recovering in the hospital today, following a double shooting in East Flatbush.

Residents say that Saturday night more than 60 people were hanging out in the P.S. 119 schoolyard, when chaos ensued.

Police say an unidentified man walked in and shot a 13-year-old in the rear, then chased 15-year-old Dequan Mercurius up the block, and shot him in the torso.

Both teens were taken to Kings County Hospital, where Mercurius was pronounced dead on arrival. Police say the other boy is in stable condition.

The staff at the school told News 12 their schoolyard was open on a Saturday night because of a city program that allows kids to play basketball during off hours.

Police haven't made any arrests in the incident, and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
