GRAVESEND - Authorities say a school bus crashed into parked cars and a bank in Gravesend today, seriously injuring the driver.

Officials say nine middle-school students on the bus escaped injury when the bus crashed at about 7:43 a.m. on West 6th Street and Avenue U. The students were being taken to The Mark Twain School for the Gifted and Talented.

The 60-year-old driver of the bus, who authorities suspect may have suffered a heart attack, was taken to Lutheran Medical Center. The children were taken to Coney Island Hospital for observation.
