BROOKLYN - A 16-year-old girl is dead and two others are in critical condition after a two-alarm fire broke out in Kensington.
According to fire officials, the flames started on the second floor of a three-story, one-family home on East Eighth Street at around 5:30 a.m. They say there were no working smoke detectors in the house at the time of the fire.
Three sisters, ages 16, 26 and 28, were found unconscious in a bathroom on the top floor, and were all rushed to hospitals.
The youngest child, Jasmine Guillame, 16, was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The other two sisters were taken to different area hospitals with life-threatening injuries.
The mother of the young women and another woman in her 50s were on the first floor and evacuated on their own. They are both in the hospital and are in stable condition.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
