2 Brooklyn firehouses become official New York City landmarks
BROOKLYN - Two firehouses in Brooklyn are now official city landmarks.
The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission unanimously voted to award the distinction to buildings that house Engine Company 228 in Sunset Park and Engine Company 240 in Windsor Terrace.
Three other city firehouses were also designated new landmarks, bringing the city total to 37. The status ensures that the unique architecture of the historic structures, which were all built more than 100 years ago, will be protected from future development.
