2 brothers injured in East New York fire

BROOKLYN - Two young brothers were taken to the hospital after a fire tore through their building in East New York Friday night, leaving several families homeless.

The two boys, ages 2 and 4, were rescued by firefighters from their apartment at 750 Snediker Ave. A neighbor says the leg of one of the brothers was burning as he was carried out.

Both children were taken to Brookdale Hospital along with their mother and 8-year-old sister, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials say the other three apartments in the building were empty when the fire ignited.

The Red Cross is helping displaced residents with food, clothing and temporary shelter.
