BROOKLYN - Two kayakers were pulled to safety yesterday afternoon after their boat overturned in Jamaica Bay.

Two police divers retrieved one of the kayakers. A detective monitoring police radio traffic spotted the second man swimming to a boat anchored in the bay. He then put on his wetsuit and swam the length of two football fields to rescue him.

Water temperatures are currently around 40 degrees. The kayakers and the detective were treated for hypothermia and have been hospitalized in stable condition.
