BROOKLYN - Officials say they have two people of interest in custody for questioning in connection with the shooting of a NYPD officer yesterday in East New York.

Police say that it all started when officers spotted someone shooting at another person at the Cypress Hills Housing Development just before 11 last night.

Officer Jamil Sarwar and his partner were on foot patrol in the area and were responding to the scene when they heard more gunshots.

They immediately took cover inside one of the housing complexes on Fountain Avenue. That's when officer Sarwar realized he'd been shot in the thigh.

Sarwar is in stable condition and recovering at the Jamaica Hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
