2 suspects charged in Holland Tunnel shooting

JERSEY CITY - Authorities have identified the suspects in the police-involved shooting inside the Holland Tunnel that caused a massive traffic jam last night.

Officials say the incident began around 6:10 p.m. when officers tried to stop a Jeep with two Brooklyn men inside, 19-year-old Jahaad Sanders and 24-year-old Lorenzo Dease, near the tunnel toll plaza in Jersey City. But Sanders, who was behind the wheel, wouldn't stop, and witnesses say he tried to use the vehicle as a weapon.

Officers fired four shots at the vehicle, hitting Sanders in the forearm. Both suspects were treated at Bellevue Hospital and have since been released.

Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman said the two officers sustained minor injuries in the incident and were treated at Jersey City Medical Center.

Sanders and Dease are now facing a slew of charges, including aggravated assault, carjacking, unlawful possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.Associated Press reports contributed to this article.
