BROOKLYN - Two workers were severely injured after a manhole on Broadway in Bushwick exploded Wednesday morning.

The workers were down in the manhole trying to fix an issue. One worker was taken to the hospital in critical condition with injuries to the face and head, according to a witness.

Both workers are employed by Con Edison. The company said such explosions can be caused by salt on the roads and that it is investigating the incident.
