BROOKLYN - Brooklyn has two major construction projects, the Atlantic Yards arena and Coney Island resort, to look forward to in 2007.
The $4 billion Atlantic Yards development will be built in the downtown area. It includes an arena for the Nets, housing units and retail space. Developer Forest City Ratner recently installed cameras at the site, making nearby residents upset over the loss of privacy. They are also fighting eminent domain.
Meanwhile, plans are in the works to give gritty Coney Island?s Astroland a makeover into a year-round resort. Thor Equities recently purchased the property and plans to build other attractions. However, the new owner promises to leave the Cyclone ride intact.
