RED HOOK - Thousands of people from around the world were in Red Hook this morning for the 12th annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run.
The run, which started at the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel and ended at the World Trade Center, is held in memory of firefighter Stephen Siller and other first responders who were killed on Sept. 11. The run's route retraced the path Siller took to get to the World Trade Center on Sept. 11.
Siller was off-duty when he rushed downtown, running several miles in full gear. Some firefighters from as far away as London ran the race today also dressed in their full gear.
All the money raised will go to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which has already raised $35 million for various charities.
