SHEEPSHEAD BAY - A special election is being held today to replace former Brooklyn Rep. Anthony Weiner.

The Democrat stepped down from his seat in June after he admitted sexting with various women and posting racy pictures of himself online.

Republican candidate Bob Turner, Democratic Assemblyman David Weprin and Socialist Workers Party candidate Christopher Hoeppner are the three looking to fill the seat.

Elected officials say the 9th Congressional District seat has never been won by a Republican, but recent polls show Turner has a slight lead.

In addition to Weiner's 9th Congressional District seat, contenders are fighting for the 54th State Assembly District seat. Three candidates are vying for Darryl Towns' former seat after he left to take a post in Gov. Andrew Cuomo's (D-N.Y.) administration. Rafael Espinal, Jesus Gonzalez and Diedra Towns are all fighting to represent the 54th state Assembly District, which comprises parts of Bed-Stuy, Bushwick, Cypress Hills and East New York.
