BROOKLYN - The 31st annual Mermaid Parade was held in Coney Island today featuring mermaids, sea creatures and pirates.

Hundreds of people walked the route along Surf Avenue between West 23rd Street and West 10th Street. The parade then headed on to the boardwalk.

After a budget shortfall from Sandy damages, the parade almost didn't happen this year. However, more than 2,000 passionate supporters donated money.
