4 pedestrians, driver hospitalized after van crash

BROWNSVILLE - Four pedestrians were injured after witnesses say they were hit by a van in Brownsville tonight.

Witnesses say a 79-year-old man driving a burgundy minivan made a left turn from Rockaway Avenue onto Dumont Avenue. They say the car then hit a gate and a cable box before driving onto the sidewalk and striking the pedestrians.

Police say a 12-year-old girl and her 15-year-old brother were hit by the van and taken to Kings County Hospital. They say a 16-year-old boy and a 31-year-old man were also hospitalized after the crash.

Witnesses say that the driver hit multiple cars after driving off the curb and down the street.

The elderly man behind the wheel was taken to the hospital and has not been charged with anything at this time.
