4 Shomrim patrolmen recovering after shooting

(09/03/10) BOROUGH PARK - Four members of the Shomrim Community Patrol are recovering today after being shot at last night. The patrolmen say they were chasing a man who was touching himself in front of girls when he shot at them.

Members of the patrol do not carry guns and because of that, Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-N.Y.) says a change needs to be made. It is the second shooting this week in a neighborhood that praises itself on a low crime rate.

Earlier this week, the community patrol helped police apprehend an armed robber who fired shots at them.

The community is appealing to Police Commissioner Ray Kelly to put more patrols on their streets because the community patrol can?t handle men with guns.
