430 MTA bus workers laid off

BROOKLYN - For 430 MTA bus workers, today is their last day of work as service changes and reductions go into effect.

The workers were informed by letter on June 18.

The MTA?s $800 million budget deficit necessitated the termination of dozens of bus routes across the city, many of which were in Brooklyn.

The unions representing the workers are considering a lawsuit or injunction to stop the layoffs similar to what was done to stop layoffs of subway personnel.

The MTA has said that some of the workers may be re-hired in September.
