BROOKLYN - A little boy is recovering after falling out of a kiddie ride in Coney Island.

According to city officials, the 5-year-old hurt his leg when he fell up to 6 feet from the Sea Serpent Ride inside Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement Park Wednesday night. They say it appears that he may have climbed under the safety bar while the ride was in motion.

Witnesses say it looked as though the boy was suddenly thrown out of his seat, causing his leg to get pinned between the ride and the tracks.

The ride's conductor quickly stopped the mini-coaster, and the child was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he's expected to be OK.

The Department of Buildings investigation is ongoing. It said in a statement, "Our inspectors have conducted an initial inspection on the ride involved in the incident and found no defects with the equipment." The Sea Serpent Ride will stay closed as the investigation continues.

Deno's owner, Dennis Vourderis says he is devastated by what happened and will be meeting with other park owners today to see how he can make Deno's a safer environment. He says this is the first time an injury has happened on the Sea Serpent Ride in its 15-year lifespan.

Park staff members say the child met all the height requirements for the ride before getting on.
