CROWN HEIGHTS - Authorities say six people were taken to the hospital after a blaze ripped through a Crown Heights building.

Firefighters scrambled to rescue about a dozen people after the fire broke out on Lefferts Avenue in the kitchen of a fourth-floor apartment.

Vaughn Armour, whose son is paralyzed from the waist down, credits a police officer with bringing his son to safety.

"One police officer came to the floor ?and carried him downstairs," Armour says.
