EAST NEW YORK - Seventeen people are in custody today after police announced a major drug bust in the East New York.

Investigators say two gangs sold crack cocaine and marijuana to the undercover detectives during a seven-monthlong investigation.

Officers reported that the investigation involved local businesses -- all within blocks of one another.

Undercover detectives operated out of a Chinese food restaurant on Liberty Avenue, their own building's lobby, a bodega and more.

They also reported that the deals and the rivalry between the gangs sparked a rash of violence over the past year.
