BROWNSVILLE - Eight construction workers were injured in a partial building collapse Wednesday afternoon in Brownsville, where the Department of Buildings says the interior demolition work was being done without permits.

The accident happened at 19-16 Prospect Place, where community activist Tony Herbert says residents have complained about unsafe conditions. Residents who live next door say they warned workers the building was unstable when they arrived to start the renovations Wednesday and tell News 12 Brooklyn they're concerned about safety at the site.

The eight injured construction workers were taken to Brookdale and Kings County hospitals. EMS workers say all eight were seriously injured, but none of the injuries are life-threatening.
