8 fire companies in Brooklyn saved from closure

BROOKLYN - Eight Brooklyn fire companies have been spared from being closed under a budget compromise.

In all, 20 fire companies across the city that were slated to close will now remain open.

Residents had rallied to keep the fire companies operating, citing a likely increase in response time to fires and other emergencies.
