BROOKLYN - Traffic has returned to normal for the morning commute following a chain reaction crash on the Gowanus Expressway.

Authorities say that the massive pileup involved at least 30 vehicles in the eastbound lanes near the 6th Avenue exit at around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The accident caused severe delays, leaving traffic backed up for miles, and eight people suffered minor injures.

The cause of the crash remains unclear, but icy roads may have played a role.
