BROOKLYN - A shooting spree that broke out at a crowded house party in East New York has left one person dead and eight others wounded this morning.

Police say shots rang out at around 3:15 a.m. at a party on Belmont Avenue and then spilled out into the street.

One victim, a 20-year-old man, was killed. Police said five of the shooting victims were in stable condition at area hospitals, while three were treated and released.

Police have recovered two guns at the scene. According to Councilman Charles Barron, who represents East New York, investigators are questioning three men in their 20s in connection to the shooting.

"This madness has to stop," Barron says. "We say to our community, 'Put down the guns.' Unfortunately for me, as much as I love the summer, when the sun comes up, the guns come out."
