MIDWOOD - Firefighters are trying to find out what started the fire that an killed an 8-year-old boy and injured five others.

Fire officials say the three-alarm blaze broke out just before 10 p.m. Wednesday on Avenue P in Midwood. The father ran into the home to rescue his children, five of whom were rushed to the hospital. His 8-year-old son, Avigdor, was killed.

Many residents in the heavy Orthodox and Hasidic community refused to appear on camera because of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, but they say they are keeping the family in their prayers.
