BROOKLYN - Responders to the Sept. 11 attacks who say their health was affected are set to receive hundreds of millions in their settlement.

A federal judge signed off on a legal settlement today that could pay as much as $712 million to Sept. 11 responders exposed to World Trade Center dust, and immediately urged thousands of police, firefighters and construction workers to take the deal.

An original settlement worth between $575 million and $657 million was deemed insufficient for the most seriously ill responders.

AP wire services were used in this report.
