9-month-old critical after being struck by car

BROOKLYN - A 9-month-old boy is in critical condition with head injuries after he, his twin brother and mother were struck by a car in Brooklyn yesterday afternoon.

According to police, a livery cab smashed into two illegally parked cars on 4th Avenue and 45th Street, sending one of them up the sidewalk and into Patricia Mechuca and her sons, Gustavo and Daniel.

Officials say the driver, 57-year-old Gregorio Patino, and his three passengers are OK. Patricia and Daniel are both in stable condition at Lutheran Hospital, but Gustavo has been taken to pediatric specialists.

Police say Patino has been charged with driving with a suspended license, imprudent speed and reckless driving.
