Accident, fire create traffic mess on BQE

BROOKLYN - A tractor-trailer accident on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway Monday started a fire and created a traffic nightmare for drivers Monday.

The accident happened near the Cadman Plaza exit in Downtown Brooklyn. Police say a car and truck collided causing the truck to hit a guardrail.

The Department of Transportation says there was structural damage to the BQE. The expressway was reopened Monday evening after being closed for several hours.

Many drivers say the evening commute was horrendous as a result of the accident and road closure.
