Advocates protest killing Prospect Park geese

PROSPECT PARK - Some Brooklyn residents rallied today to save geese and other wildlife that live in Prospect Park.

Animal advocates, headed by the group Friends of Animals, protested the gassing of more than 350 of the park's geese, which took place last summer. Residents say they are outraged they weren't consulted before the United States Department of Agriculture was brought in to euthanize the birds.

According to a representative for Mayor Michael Bloomberg's administration, the geese threatened air travel safety.

Protesters demanded an end to policies that remove animals from the area and said they consider the park a sanctuary.
