OCEAN HILL - A former convent and school has been transformed into an affordable housing unit.

The 64 units are located on Pacific Street in Ocean Hill. Catholic Charities says the $18 million development fills a void in the neighborhood.

The units were once used as a rectory, school and convent, but the church repurposed the buildings to carry out its mission of helping the community.

Monthly rents range from $494 to $860 with eight units receiving Section 8 subsidies.

Catholic Charities says it has received 5,000 applications for the units.
