Driver charged after hitting, killing 61-year-old woman

BROOKLYN - A Brooklyn man is being charged after striking a pedestrian who later died in Bath Beach. 

According to police, 39-year-old Alexander Smotritsky was driving north on 21st Avenue Monday when he turned east onto Cropsey Avenue, hitting a 61-year-old woman crossing the intersection. 

Smotritsky remained at the scene, but faces charges for violation of highway law and failure to exercise due care. 

The woman died in the hospital the day after the accident.
