NEW YORK - A major police investigation into a suspicious package found in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx shut down the Major Deegan Expressway in both directions Wednesday evening.

The heavy police presence could be spotted at the intersection of Alexander Avenue and East 134th Street. Multiple agencies responded to the scene.

The NYPD's bomb squad gave the all-clear around 7:20 p.m. The department also canceled its mobilization. The roadways began reopening as authorities wrapped up their investigation.

News 12 was told that a pressure cooker was what sparked the response, but that it was without wires or phones attached, like what was used in the Manhattan and New Jersey bombings last weekend.

News 12 spoke with a New Jersey man who says he spotted the pressure cooker under the Major Deegan overpass and called police. He says it was empty when opened by authorities.

There was no word Wednesday night on how the pressure cooker wound up on the side of the road or who possibly put it there.

The NYPD later tweeted that another suspicious device was found in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan. That scene was also given the all-clear.
