Alleged ATM-theft ringleader arraigned

BROOKLYN - The alleged ringleader of the group of men who police say hit 62 ATMs across Brooklyn over the past year was arraigned today.

Police say Miguel Colon , one of five men behind the robberies, admitted to the thefts on the Internet and jumped out a window of a Brooklyn home when they tried to arrest him.

Detectives close to the investigation say that the suspects told them that they thought of the ATM theft idea after watching the 2010 Ben Affleck movie ?The Town,? and took ideas from it, such as splashing bleach on the ATMs and cash registers to destroy fingerprints and other evidence.

Overall, the five men are suspected of 62 burglaries at delis and 99-cent stores, some as recent as a week ago. The group allegedly made off with nearly $220,000.
