WILLIAMSBURG - Apple plans to open its first store in Brooklyn, according to chatter on the MacRumors online forum, which reports on all things Apple.

The tech giant, whose website indicates that it plans to hire more than a dozen employees for a Brooklyn location, will reportedly set up shop in a two-story, 20,000-square-foot building on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg.

The building used to house a bagel shop, pharmacy, yoga studio and other businesses. The site is in the same area where a Whole Foods will open this year.

"I'm surprised it took this long," says one man. "Brooklyn's like the new Manhattan."

Shimmy Orr, of Williamsburg, isn't eager for Apple's arrival. "This neighborhood used to have a lot of mom-and-pop shops," says Orr. "Now, it's got Apple, Duane Reade and Starbucks. It's a little sad."

Many Brooklyn customers currently go to Apple stores in Manhattan. There is no official word on when the Williamsburg location would open.
