BROOKLYN - A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting inside a Brooklyn subway station.

The shooting happened in the mezzanine level of the Borough Hall subway stop at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators say a dispute broke out between a 69-year-old retired corrections officer, 32-year-old Gilbert Drogheo and another man. It turned physical and the officer's gun was fired once, hitting Drogheo in the chest.

Officials say Joscelyn Evering, of Brooklyn, has been arrested and charged with menacing and two counts of assault.

News 12 has learned that the retired officer was questioned and released from custody, but officials say he could still be charged.

Drogheo's family says he was an electrician and was on his way home from work when he was killed. They tell News 12 that Drogheo did not know the man who shot him.

The family has asked for the public to come forward with information about the incident.

News 12 reached out to Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson about the matter, whose office said, "We are fully investigating the incident to see if a grand jury presentation is warranted."
