GOWANUS - Dozens of artists gathered in Gowanus Saturday to protest after learning that they are being forced out of their art studios.

The group says the landlord at 94 Ninth St., which holds hundreds of art studios, decided to switch management companies. The new company is called Prospect Management.

Artist Elisabeth Page Purcell told News 12 that Prospect Management left a message on her phone on Oct. 8 saying that she had to be out of his studio by Oct. 31.

Arts Gowanus, along with Councilman Brad Lander, started a petition which has already garnered hundreds of signatures. They hope to get much more in an effort to change the landlord's mind about renewing the leases.

Prospect Management has not yet returned a call to comment.
