CONEY ISLAND - The Astrotower is no longer towering over Coney Island.

The iconic ride, decommissioned in 2010, has been knocked down to less than 5 feet after reports that it was swaying in the wind last week.

Two of the amusement parks were temporarily closed as demolition began on the once 275-foot tower Wednesday. The parks were opened for business for Fourth of July weekend.

Those who came to take pictures of the remaining tower stump told News 12 that they hope a new ride or tower will take its place.
