Autistic child killed in Brooklyn apartment fire

CONEY ISLAND - An autistic Brooklyn child was killed in a high-rise fire Tuesday.

Neighbors say the boy was left alone when his grandmother went to the store, before the fire started on the 16th floor around 1 p.m.

EMS tried to revive the 11-year-old boy for over 30 minutes, but were unable to save him. He was pronounced dead at Coney Island Hospital.

The grandmother was also treated after fainting during EMS attempts to save the boy, but is OK.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
