GRAVESEND - The Avenue X subway station in Gravesend has reopened after six months of renovations.

Commuters in the area say the work had strained their daily schedules.

Straphangers had to use an alternative platform for the Manhattan-bound F train that was farther away, forcing them to leave earlier for work and return home later at night.

The MTA's facelift included new staircases, lights and railings while adding handicapped accessibility in the $9.2 million project. The renovations also included new paint, doors and windows.

Vendors like the nearby FX Express, which sells items including coffee and cigarettes, say business had slumped during the renovation.
