DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN - The Barclays Center roof will be going green next year with bright plants blooming on the structure.

Forest City Ratner Companies, which owns the Barclays Center, says the project involves planting easy-to-maintain plants called sedum on the roof. Senior Vice President Ashley Cotton says that since the roof is white, it's environmentally sustainable, as it deflects sunlight. The entrance of Barclays' transit center is already covered with sedum.

In addition to creating a greener environment, project organizers hope it'll provide a nicer view to those living nearby.

Construction on the project will begin next year, with the plants blooming about six months later.
