Barclays Center to host major boxing events

BROOKLYN - The Barclays Center, the under-construction Downtown Brooklyn home of the New Jersey Nets, will also host major boxing matches when it is completed in 2012.

The announcement was made yesterday by Los Angeles-based Golden Boy Promotions and Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, which is behind the 22-acre Atlantic Yards development.

The fights will emphasize Brooklyn fighters, including Danny Jacobs, a former Golden Gloves champion, and the agreement calls for at least 12 boxing events per year.
