BROOKLYN - Hundreds of people gathered in Bay Ridge today to honor the memory of fallen firefighter Michael Behette.

To make sure his name and memory will always live on, 85th Street was renamed "Firefighter Michael G. Behette 9/11 Memorial Way."

Behette was lifelong Bay Ridge resident who lost his battle with lung cancer in September of 2012 after dedicating his life to helping others. Since Behette wasn't a smoker, the cancer may have been the result of his fearless volunteer work at Ground Zero.

Behette grew up on the newly renamed street, and his mother still lives there. She says she hopes those who see the new street sign will be inspired to always go out of their way to help others.

Friends and family shared stories and sang the song "Let It Be," since Behette was an avid Beatles fan. Even strangers filled the street to pay their respects.
