BED-STUY - A local church launched a new program to take steps in the fight against childhood obesity.

More than four in 10 children in the Bed-Stuy and Bushwick areas are overweight or obese, according to the Brooklyn District Public Health Office.

Through the Youth Fitness Ambassador Program at Saint Phillip’s Christian Church, children ages 5 to 15 are working out, playing basketball, running drills and learning to eat healthy in the church’s gym.

While today's event was free to the public, future weekend programs are being offered for $65 per month.
