BROOKLYN - Residents in Bed-Stuy say their library has been taken over by drug addicts and that it's time for the community to take the library back.

Some community members rallied outside the library on Franklin Avenue, demanding the library make security improvements.

They say that for years, the library has been a place where drug addicts hang out during the day and sometimes even do drugs in the bathroom.

The Brooklyn Public Library system tells News 12 that it is adding locks to the bathroom doors and adding another public safety officer.

News 12 also reached out to the NYPD, which says it has two officers patrolling the area that will meet with library staff every day to address any issues.

People who use the library hope the security changes will help transform it into a safe haven for the future.
